Summary

The Salvation Army's National Capital Area Command needed an annual report to thank donors and show what their support made possible in the Washington, D.C. region. The theme was "Finding Smiles in the Most Interesting Faces," so the report had to feel personal and human while still covering program impact and the year's financials.

I built the design around the organization's most recognizable asset: the red shield. On the cover, portraits of the people the Army serves are cropped into shield shapes and lined up on either side of the logo, so the brand and the faces read as one message. Inside, a "New Millennium of Support" timeline walks through the Army's disaster response, from the Indian Ocean tsunami and Hurricane Katrina to Virginia Tech and the D.C. Metro collision, with each event marked by its own shield-cropped image. The financial highlights carry the same red and shield motifs into the charts, so revenue and expense data looks like part of the story instead of an appendix.

The result is a report where every section, from the cover to the balance sheet, reinforces the brand without repeating the logo on every page.
